We promise to keep it simple! We have visited many sites on the Internet that specialize in all sorts of auctions, antiques and collectibles. Many of these sites are exceptionally well done but most of them deal in a particular type of service or a particular type of item. They have researched their subject matter well and actually qualify as experts in their fields. One of our goals here is to provide less experienced people with a single source that will give them basic information on all sorts of antiques and collectibles.
In addition, we want to share the finer points of how live brick and mortar auctions function and what you can expect if you either attend one or consign merchandise to one. There aren't many of us who don't know all about online bidding, but many people are still unfamiliar with or leery of real auction houses. For those who are not intimately involved in the antiques business, there seems to be an air of mystery surrounding them. There are people who don't even know that most live auctions are open to the general public.
Our plan is to get rid of the mystery by explaining how they work, what the common practices are, the rules followed by most houses, how to behave at an auction, some of the laws governing auctions which can vary state to state and what to expect from different auctioneers. We also have some personal stories we will share with you to show you how much fun attending a live auction can be.
We will also provide you with interesting background information as well as relevant details concerning all sorts of antiques and collectibles to include, but not limited to, furniture, glass, pottery, porcelain, art, jewelry, coins, toys, dolls, carpets, postcards and much more. Hopefully you will find our mini-articles on these subjects informative and at the same time short and to the point.
Over the years, we have made many friends in this business and they all have their own areas of expertise. Sharing some of their knowledge with you by interviewing them and posting these interviews on our site is another of our objectives. Whether you are an expert, a novice or somewhere in-between, we welcome you to post your own experiences or share your knowledge with us in our forums.
If you are new to collecting or just have an appreciation for vintage items this site could help you develop and nurture a passion that you don't yet know you have! We hope you will visit us on a consistent basis, as we will be updating the content of this site regularly. As soon as possible, we plan to add an archive area where past articles will be stored for future reference. This is a work in progress so thank you very much for your patience.
